Placement
Torso tattoos
Torso tattoos include pieces on the chest, ribs, stomach and collarbones — from a miniature to a large-scale scene. Here a tattoo can accentuate the lines of the body or join several of its areas into one composition.
Placements in this area
01Chest tattooFrom the collarbones to the ribs: the chest suits both a delicate piece and a full-width composition, symmetrical or free-flowing.- 02Hip tattooThe hip: a piece here follows the curve of the body and can flow onto the waist, thigh or lower stomach.
03Rib tattooThe ribs are a long area along the side for pieces that follow the curve of the body, from lettering to a design running from chest to hip.- 04Stomach tattooThe stomach is the centre of the torso, from a delicate pattern around the navel to a composition that continues a chest piece.
- 05Collarbone tattooThe collarbone is a narrow, elegant line for lettering, a branch or an ornament that shows in open necklines.
About this area
Men’s and women’s torso tattoos can be minimal or cover a large part of the body. Lettering, floral motifs, portraits and complex realistic scenes each call for a different placement. What matters is that the chosen design suits the specific area and its details stay expressive.
On the chest and stomach you can place one central image or several connected elements, and on the side a scene can unfold from the ribs to the waist. The piece doesn’t have to be symmetrical: its form is defined by the idea and your build.
If you already have tattoos on your chest, shoulders or stomach, they are taken into account when creating the new project. The pieces can stay separate, or transitions between them can be planned. Whether a tattoo can be continued or covered up is assessed based on the existing work.
